Malayalam dark comedy Ponman is now available for streaming on JioHotstar. The Jothish Shankar directorial, based on G.R. Indugopan’s novel Naalanchu Cheruppakar, features a stellar cast including Basil Joseph, Sajin Gopu, Lijomol Jose, Anand Manmadhan, and Deepak Parambol.
Set in Kollam, the movie follows PP Ajesh, a jewellery sales agent who advances gold to brides’ families, expecting repayment from wedding cash gifts. When Steffi’s family fails to return sovereigns, Ajesh embarks on a tense pursuit to reclaim it. The film explores societal issues surrounding dowry and the community’s deep-rooted obsession with gold.
Ponman released in theatres on January 30, 2025 to mixed reviews. The film earned praise for its compelling narrative, strong performances, and insightful commentary on societal issues.
The movie joins the JioHotstar library, which already has recent Malayalam releases like Aavesham, Premalu, Falimy and Neru, among others.
