Thudarum, directed by Tharun Moorthy, and starring Mohanlal and Shobana in the lead roles, was previously rumored to be delayed due to the absence of an OTT deal. However, producer G. Suresh Kumar recently confirmed that the film’s OTT rights have already been sold. In an exclusive interview, Kumar revealed that the leading OTT platform that acquired the film has scheduled its release for May, which is the real reason behind the delay in its theatrical release.
In an interview with The Cue, the film producer said, “Thudarum has been acquired by an OTT platform, but according to their release schedule, it can only be released in May. If it is released earlier in theaters, it will lose its novelty by the time it arrives on OTT. That’s the only way they can handle it. However, consider the financial loss a producer incurs due to this delay. For a three-month wait, the interest alone amounts to several lakhs per month.”
In Thudarum, Mohanlal portrays a taxi driver from Ranni, a small town in Pathanamthitta. The Tharun Moorthy directorial delves into the everyday struggles and aspirations of an ordinary man. The film also stars Shobana who will share screen space with Mohanlal after 15 years.
In a video shared on the YouTube channel of production house Rejaputhra Visual Media, Moorthy spoke about the film, saying, “I was able to present Mohanlal in a way I wanted him to be presented in the movie. It is the greatest joy for me. We invite you to witness Lalettan as a hero of generations and experience the on-screen chemistry between Mohanlal and Shobana.”
